RTA Showcases Multiple Smart Projects at Gitex Global
Dubai, UAE – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced several smart projects that it will be showcasing at the upcoming Gitex Global exhibition. One of the highlights is a new smart gate that allows commuters to pay fares for various modes of public transport in Dubai, including the Dubai Metro, tram, buses, taxis, and marine transport, by simply passing through the gate. This innovative system uses facial recognition technology to provide commuters with a seamless journey. To use the smart gate, users need to register and have their faces analyzed by a 3D camera. Once their bio-data is verified, the fare is automatically deducted from their accounts.

In addition to the smart gate, the RTA will also unveil other exciting projects at Gitex Global. One of these projects is a new service that enables the transfer of vehicle number plate ownership through the Dubai Drive app. With this service, customers can complete the sale procedures digitally using the digital ID ‘UAE PASS’, eliminating the need to visit an RTA service center. The sale contract is signed digitally, making the entire process quick and convenient.

Furthermore, the RTA will be utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to predict parking occupancy. By analyzing parking reservation transactions and inspections, the AI model can accurately predict parking occupancy rates for every hour up to two weeks in advance. This information will be made available through RTA apps, allowing motorists to plan their trips more efficiently by knowing the expected occupancy rates of parking lots.

Another remarkable project that will be on display is the world’s first 3D-printed abra. With a capacity of 20 passengers, this electric abra combines traditional design with modern features, showcasing the RTA’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

To enhance the overall user experience, the RTA has revamped its app with a new user interface. The redesigned app incorporates data and AI technologies to provide a more seamless and user-friendly platform.

Speaking about these projects, Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at the RTA, expressed the authority’s dedication to leveraging emerging technologies and AI to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and customer services.

These exciting smart projects will be showcased at Gitex Global, the world’s largest technology and startup exhibition, which will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre starting Monday. With the RTA’s commitment to innovation and technological advancements, Dubai’s transportation system is set to become even smarter and more convenient for its residents and visitors.
