UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has directed the renaming of Abu Dhabi International Airport. Beginning February 9, 2024, the airport will be known as Zayed International Airport, coinciding with the official opening of the new Terminal A. This announcement was made by the Abu Dhabi Media Office ahead of the airport’s opening on November 1.

To mark this occasion, Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, toured the new Terminal A. Spanning over 742,000 square meters, the terminal is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that will fuel growth in tourism and aviation in Abu Dhabi.

Formerly known as Midfield Terminal during its construction phase, Terminal A has the capacity to handle up to 45 million passengers annually. It will serve 117 destinations worldwide, enhancing Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation hub. Etihad Airways will conduct a ceremonial flight on October 31 before opening to the public on November 1.

Terminal A’s operations will be implemented in three phases over a two-week period. Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and 15 other international airlines will commence operations at the new terminal on November 1. Subsequently, Etihad Airways will operate 16 daily flights from November 9 until its full operation on November 14. Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and ten other airlines will also transition to the new terminal on November 14.

Upon its full operation, Terminal A will offer passengers a wide range of retail options with 35,000 square meters of space, housing 163 shops and food and beverage outlets. Renowned brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Ferragamo, and Muji will be available, providing passengers with an exceptional shopping and dining experience.

The renaming of Abu Dhabi International Airport to Zayed International Airport reflects the ongoing commitment of the UAE to invest in the development of its tourism and aviation sectors, ensuring the highest standards of security and safety.
