A recent report launched by data and digital consulting leader Artefact Mena has revealed that more than 80% of organizations in the MENA region are experiencing changes within their operations due to Generative AI. The report, based on a comprehensive survey and interviews with executives from various industries in the region, explores the current status of Generative AI, its key applications, challenges, and prospects.

According to the white paper, nearly half of the survey respondents have already begun exploring the capabilities of Generative AI through the implementation of proof of concepts (POCs) or industrialized use cases. This trend is particularly pronounced in the MENA region, where organizations are actively testing the technology and gaining hands-on experience.

Notably, governments in the Middle East have been advocating for the adoption of Generative AI, particularly in the public sector. Investments are being made at various levels, ranging from applications to foundational models and infrastructure, including Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Several countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have even launched AI strategies and initiatives with a specific focus on generative AI.

The white paper highlights that organizations mainly see the potential of Generative AI in customer service, sales & marketing, and operations. However, implementation of these use cases requires addressing technical considerations, such as data protection, security, and data quality. Building the necessary capabilities and skills for Generative AI, as well as initiating change management programs, is crucial. While 33% of organizations claim their employees are ready to embrace the change, 58% still require change management efforts.

Commenting on the findings, Rahul Arya, CEO and Managing Partner of Artefact Mena, emphasized the need for organizations in the Middle East to have a holistic view of their vision and roadmap for AI. He stated, “Gen AI can redefine business operations across diverse sectors, and Artefact has been a driving force in enabling organizations to explore and implement its use cases across different domains.”

Furthermore, Christelle Salame, Partner at Artefact Mena, highlighted the rapid evolution and adoption of Generative AI technology in the region. She acknowledged the potential disruptions and challenges that come with the technology but expressed confidence in addressing them as the technology and applications continue to evolve.

It is clear that Generative AI has already begun transforming organizations in the MENA region, and with continued exploration and implementation, its impact is only expected to grow.
