Dubai, renowned as the world’s top tourist destination for two consecutive years according to Trip Advisor, has achieved yet another accolade. It boasts the highest occupancy rates in the world during the first half of 2023, with an impressive 78%. Faisal Durrani, the Partner and Head of Research MENA at a reputable consultancy, shared this exciting news.
Despite the ever-increasing capacity of hotels in Dubai, there is no fear of these new rooms remaining unoccupied for long. The demand for hotels has consistently remained high throughout the year, even during the summer season. Hotel industry sources confirm this trend, reassuring operators that their occupancy levels will continue to thrive.
The confidence surrounding the addition of these new rooms is largely due to the fact that 70% of the under-construction and planned hotels fall into the luxury and upper upscale segments. These establishments cater specifically to discerning travelers seeking a premium experience. Turab Saleem, Partner and Head of Hospitality, Tourism, and Leisure Advisory, highlighted these figures.
Dubai’s popularity as a global tourist hotspot is undeniably strong, with a 20% increase in tourist arrivals in H1-2023 compared to the previous year. This surge reinforces the city’s enduring appeal. A significant 67% of Dubai’s hotel supply is internationally branded, emphasizing its global appeal in the hospitality sector.
When it comes to hotel rooms, Accor, the renowned hotel operator, currently leads the pack with 71,820 existing rooms and an additional 49,510 rooms in the pipeline, expected to be completed by 2030. Marriott International follows closely behind with 63,790 available rooms and 52,790 planned. IHG Hotels & Resorts boasts 35,140 current rooms and 22,120 in development. Notably, Hilton Worldwide, with its existing 33,450 rooms, has plans to add a remarkable 39,860 more.
Dubai’s hospitality sector continues to expand, driven by its reputation as an exceptional tourist destination. With its high occupancy rates and an array of luxury offerings, it is set to maintain its position as a top choice for travelers worldwide.
