RTA Honors Public Transport Champions in Dubai
Dubai, Nov 4, 2023 – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recognized and awarded the “Public Transport Champions” for their exceptional use of mass transit in Dubai. In an awarding ceremony held during the celebration of the 14th Public Transport Day and RTA’s 18th anniversary, top winners in each category received one million nol Plus points.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA director general and chairman of the board of executive directors, led the ceremony and presented the awards to the deserving recipients. Six Public Transport Champions were chosen from the commuters, with both the “people of determination” category and the general public category having their own winners.
In the people of determination category, Dhiren Bhatia emerged as the top winner, having completed 8,000 journeys. Salem Al Somahi secured the second position with 7,000 journeys, followed by Mohamed Abdul Kader in third place with 6,750 journeys. In the general public category, Mohamed Thalangara Aboobaker claimed the top spot after undertaking 15,900 journeys on public transport. Mohammad Ahmadzadeh and Sirajudeen Abdul Kader secured second and third places with 14,442 and 13,900 journeys respectively.
The first-place winners in each category were awarded one million nol Plus points, while the second and third-place winners received 700,000 and 500,000 nol Plus points respectively, as rewards for their loyalty and commitment to using public transport.
The Nol Plus program, launched by the RTA for nol card holders, allows members to earn points and special benefits every time they use their nol card for various services, including Dubai Metro, taxi fares, public buses, and parking charges. These loyalty points can be redeemed for topping up nol accounts or availing discounts at selected restaurants and stores.
During the awarding ceremony, Al Tayer reiterated RTA’s dedication to promoting the use of Dubai’s integrated public transport system and emphasized the organization’s vision to become a global leader in seamless and sustainable mobility.
The public transport celebration, themed ‘Gym on the Go,’ will continue until November 8, aiming to encourage community members to prioritize their health and physical fitness by utilizing public transport. Stay updated with the latest news by following KT on WhatsApp Channels.
