American University of Sharjah (AUS) students achieve a noble initiative in partnership with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) by transforming a needy family’s house. Nada Ahmed had always dreamt of renovating her house, but with four children and her mother to care for, it seemed like an impossible dream. However, seventy students from the AUS took on the task and made Nada’s dream a reality.
Over the course of two weeks, the students worked tirelessly, painting, furnishing, cleaning, and decorating the entire house. Nada was overwhelmed by the transformation and the joy the students brought into their home, expressing her gratitude for the ray of hope they provided.
The Hand in Hand project, led by AUS’s Community Service and Outreach Office (CSO) in collaboration with SCHS, has successfully completed 27 renovation projects since its launch in 2009. All funding for these projects comes from student and family donations as well as charity accounts.
The director of SCHS, Mona Abdul Karim Al Yafei, commended the AUS students’ volunteer initiative, emphasizing the lasting partnership between SCHS and AUS. She also stressed the importance of promoting volunteerism and social responsibility as fundamental values in society.
This heart-warming initiative not only made a significant impact on Nada and her family but also provided AUS students with a life-changing experience. One student described the project as transformative, deepening their appreciation for their blessings and instilling a profound sense of purpose.
These heartwarming endeavours not only made a significant impact on Nada and her family but also show the power of giving back to the community. The volunteer initiative between SCHS and AUS truly embodies the spirit of charity and community unity. With the hope that this commitment will become a lasting legacy and cherished tradition, this initiative is truly remarkable.
