Riyadh Air in Talks for Major Aircraft Order at Dubai Show

Riyadh Air is in the final stages of discussions to purchase a significant number of single-aisle aircraft from Boeing during the Dubai Air Show. This potential deal is part of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman’s initiative to reduce Saudi Arabia’s economic dependence on oil and turn Riyadh into a powerful business hub. The airline aims to challenge regional incumbents and compete with larger Gulf airlines for global transfer traffic.

The possible deal marks another triumph for Boeing, after the US manufacturer secured an agreement with Riyadh in March for up to 72 787 wide-body aircraft. Riyadh’s decision to go with Boeing for its single-aisle purchase is partly due to Airbus SE’s inability to provide near-term delivery slots for its competing A320 family, which is largely sold out for the remainder of the decade.

While representatives for Boeing and Riyadh Air have refrained from commenting on the talks, the biennial Dubai Air Show is poised to see major aircraft orders from airlines, including Emirates. This development follows an earlier announcement by Douglas, the CEO of the airline, revealing that Riyadh Air was working on a “sizable” purchase of single-aisle aircraft from a single manufacturer.

As discussions are ongoing and the number of aircraft in the potential deal could change slightly, the outcome will likely shape the future of Riyadh Air and its position as a key player in the region’s aviation industry.
