Several major multinational companies, including Dell, Hewlett Packard, Foxconn unit Rising Star, and Flextronics, have been granted approval by the Indian government to participate in the country’s incentive scheme to boost IT hardware manufacturing. The government’s incentive scheme, which was expanded in May, aims to attract large investments in the manufacturing of laptops and tablets. The scheme, which now offers a doubled amount of $2 billion, includes cash-backs to manufacturers on sales of locally made goods that surpass an annual target. India has set ambitious goals to establish itself as a key player in the global electronics supply chain, with a target of reaching an annual output worth $300 billion by 2026.
