Karachi model, Erica Robin, has made history by becoming the first Pakistani to join the Miss Universe beauty contest. The 25-year-old garnered a spot in the Top 20 from a field of 84 contestants, all competing in the 72nd Miss Universe pageant held on November 18 in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Hailing from Pakistan’s Christian community, Robin was crowned “Miss Universe Pakistan” in September of the same year.
During the event, she donned a light pink kaftan by Rubin Singer for the swimsuit round and a richly embroidered black and magenta traditional ensemble named ‘Pehchaan’ for the national costume segment. The outfit aimed to symbolize the diverse culture, history, and lifestyle of Pakistan.
For the evening gown segment, she wore a bejewelled white gown by Amato Couture, paired with a floor-length head veil.
After the pageant, Robin shared a video of her Miss Universe journey, expressing gratitude to her team for training and her country for the opportunity to represent with “modesty, respect, and pride.”
In addition to Robin, Jane Dipika Garrett of Nepal was the first plus-size contestant, Camila Avella of Colombia was the first married woman and mother, and Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua was crowned Miss Universe 2023, marking the first time a Nicaraguan has won the prestigious title.
