Abu Dhabi International Airport Implements State-of-the-Art Biometric Services at Terminal A
In a move to streamline and enhance the passenger experience, Abu Dhabi International Airport has deployed biometric services at Terminal A. The new services, which officially launched on November 1, are aimed at providing travelers with a seamless and efficient journey through the airport.
During a media tour of Terminal A on Monday, Andrew Murphy, Chief Information Officer at Abu Dhabi International Airport, highlighted the advanced nature of the biometric services. These services encompass auto-enrollment, self-service check-in, self-service bag drop, immigration e-gates, and boarding gates, all designed to simplify and expedite the travel process for passengers.
One of the key features of the new biometric services is the elimination of the need for passengers to submit biometric data at multiple touchpoints. With the new auto-enrollment system, passenger data is automatically registered, offering a more convenient and efficient experience.
These biometric services are available to UAE nationals, residents, and tourists who have traveled through any UAE airport in the past 7 years. The processes are integrated with immigration authorities’ records to ensure that data remains secure and accessible when needed.
The self-service check-in is currently exclusive to Etihad Airways customers, but plans are in place to extend these services to all customers of airlines operating at the airport. Additionally, the airport has announced plans to expand the biometric services to nine touchpoints, including airport transfers, retail operations, and lounges.
From a retail perspective, passengers will have the option to join a loyalty scheme, enabling the use of biometric profiles for seamless experiences in duty-free shopping and other retail activities. Plans to expand retail operations at the airport include accommodating more brands and adding additional food and beverage establishments to meet growing demand.
The implementation of these advanced biometric services at Terminal A underscores Abu Dhabi International Airport’s commitment to enhancing the passenger experience and providing a more efficient and secure travel journey for all visitors.
