Abu Dhabi Carries Out Crackdown on Illegal Constructions in Residential Areas
Abu Dhabi authorities recently conducted a five-day crackdown on illegal constructions in residential neighborhoods on Abu Dhabi Island. Led by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, the campaign targeted landlords and tenants who violated rules on constructing residential spaces. The authority emphasized that partitions, housing units, and external constructions must always be done with the appropriate licenses and permits.
The overcrowding of residential areas is a serious violation that can result in fines of up to Dh1 million. According to Law No. 8 of 2019, a residential unit is considered overcrowded when it is occupied in a manner that is disproportionate to its area and facilities provided.
During the inspection, municipal inspectors checked residences and building signs to ensure compliance with the rules. They specifically targeted random constructions of housing units, which are groups of small rooms that are rented out without the proper municipality license.
These unauthorized units and practices have adverse effects on the emirate, including unjustified population growth, distortion of the surroundings, and risks to public health and safety. To address these issues and maintain safe communities, heightened field inspections are being carried out.
The goal of monitoring these violations is to address the phenomenon of random construction, which involves the construction of unlicensed small rooms used for housing purposes in violation of the law for profit. These practices also undermine security and safety procedures, prevailing customs, public taste, and principles of public morals. The municipality aims to provide a clean and sustainable living environment free from distortions and uncivilized practices.
Additionally, the municipality emphasized the importance of staying up to date with the latest news and encouraged readers to follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.
