Emirates, the leading airline of Dubai, has announced the extension of the suspension for its flights to and from Tel Aviv until October 26. This decision was made in response to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, which started on October 7. Previously, on October 12, Emirates had already cancelled its operations to and from Tel Aviv. The airline used to operate three daily flights to Tel Aviv.
Putting safety as their top priority, Emirates emphasized that they are closely monitoring the situation in Israel and maintaining close contact with the relevant authorities. The airline spokesperson stated, “The safety of our customers, crew, and stakeholders is our number one priority.”
Since the beginning of the conflict, flight operations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel’s capital have been either suspended or significantly reduced. However, Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways continues to provide services to Israel, albeit with a reduced number of daily flights.
Another Dubai-based carrier, flydubai, has also adjusted its operations to Tel Aviv. They have reduced their daily flights from four to two in response to the situation. The airline stated in an earlier statement, “We continue to monitor the situation closely, and we’re liaising with the relevant authorities regarding the ongoing developments.”
It is worth noting that Emirates launched its first flight to Tel Aviv in June last year, carrying 335 passengers from Dubai International Airport. This marked the start of a daily service between the two cities following the signing of the Abraham Accords.
In the midst of this conflict, US President Joe Biden arrived in Israel on an urgent mission. His objective is to prevent the Israel-Hamas war from escalating into a broader regional conflict and to support the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. The visit comes after a tragic incident in which hundreds of people were reported killed in an explosion at a Gaza Strip hospital the day before Biden’s arrival.
As the situation continues to evolve, Emirates and other airlines will continue to closely monitor developments and make adjustments to their operations accordingly, prioritizing the safety of their passengers and staff.
