Tech billionaire Elon Musk has offered to restore communications in Gaza through his satellite-based communications system, Starlink. As Israel knocked out communications lines in Gaza City, almost 2.3 million people were cut off from contact with the outside world. This blackout not only created panic among families unable to reach their loved ones, but also severely impacted humanitarian organizations operating in the city. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees and the World Health Organization (WHO) lost contact with their staff and facilities during this time. US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the crisis on social media, to which Musk responded with an offer of support. Starlink, operated by Musk’s SpaceX, is the largest satellite constellation delivering broadband internet globally. It promises high-speed, low-latency internet for users worldwide. Israel had previously been in talks with SpaceX about using Starlink services for wartime communications. Input from the ANI.
