The UAE is celebrating its 52nd Union Day, marking a significant achievement of unity and progress. As the host of COP28, the UAE is gearing up to welcome world leaders to one of the most crucial conferences for the future of our planet. In the spirit of sustainability, it is hoped that the cooperation and vision that inspired the UAE’s formation will motivate the delegates and participants at COP28.

Despite the challenges in combatting climate change, the UAE remains at the forefront of the energy transition. It was the first Gulf country to sign and ratify the Paris agreement and commit to an economy-wide reduction in emissions by 2030. Setting bold and ambitious targets to increase the share of clean energy in its power mix and investing heavily in renewable energy and clean tech, the UAE is making significant strides in its energy transition.

Recognizing the significance of diversifying its economy and reducing its dependence on fossil fuels, the UAE has nurtured a culture of innovation across various sectors, including renewable energy.

Under the leadership of COP28 President-Designate, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE aims to make the conference more inclusive and action-oriented, encouraging stronger collaboration from thought and action leaders across the private sector and the energy industry.

Moving to net-zero energy is the ultimate goal for all countries, but it cannot happen overnight. Each country is at its own stage of the energy transition, facing its own challenges and opportunities. Collaboration is key, and we must pursue progress over perfection.

The UAE is committed to delivering on its decarbonization goals and is urging other nations to accelerate their energy transitions to achieve climate neutrality. With a focus on reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, the UAE strives to effectively address climate change and fulfill the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
