The gaming industry has had a sensational year in 2023 with the release of highly-anticipated games such as Baldur’s Gate 3, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and many others. The excitement continues as the nominees for The Game Awards, including the prestigious Game of the Year category, were announced by The Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley on Monday.

Fans are now encouraged to cast their votes as fan voting has officially begun and the winner will be unveiled at the live event in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 7. The Game Awards will be available for streaming across more than 30 digital video platforms, including Twitch, YouTube, Steam, X, Facebook, and TikTok Live.

The contenders for Game of the Year are as follows:

– Alan Wake 2: A survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. The game follows protagonist Alan Wake who finds himself trapped in an alternate dimension for 13 years and is an instant hit on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.

– Baldur’s Gate 3: A role-playing video game developed and published by Larian Studios, initially released in early access for macOS, Windows, and Stadia in late October 2020. The full release on Windows came in August 2023, followed by the PlayStation 5 version in September of the same year.

– Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, this action-adventure game is a follow-up to the highly acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020).

– Resident Evil 4: A remade survival horror game developed and published by Capcom, released on multiple platforms to critical acclaim.

– Super Mario Bros. Wonder: A platform game for the Nintendo Switch by Nintendo, achieving remarkable success and receiving widespread acclaim for its engaging gameplay and design.

– The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: A beloved action-adventure game by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch, serving as the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and lauded for its expansive world and exploration incentives.

With such a stellar lineup of nominees, the competition will be tough, and fans are eagerly anticipating the announcement of the winner at The Game Awards in December.
