Are you preparing to renew your Emirates ID for the first time? Or perhaps you’ve been in the UAE for a while and need to refresh, but are unsure about the renewal procedure. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has established straightforward guidelines for the renewal process.
The time frame for renewal is 30 days from the expiration date, after which late fees will be incurred. The ID card renewal service can be applied for on the ICP website, via the ICP App, or at an accredited typing center. Additionally, a visit to one of ICP’s service centers may be necessary to provide biometric details.
For UAE residence visa holders, renewal can only be applied for upon the renewal or reissuance of their residence visa.
The first step in the renewal process is to ensure you have all the necessary documents, including your original passport and a copy, passport-sized photographs (4.5 x 3.5 cm) with a white background, and a completed renewal application form.
Visiting an authorized typing center will initiate the renewal process, where biometric data will be taken for verification, and the renewal fee of Dh370 for a two-year validity must be paid. Once these steps are completed, an SMS or email notification will inform you when your new Emirates ID is ready. For the final steps, visit the same typing center or Emirates Post office to collect your new Emirates ID or the delivery method you opted for, and verify that all information on the card is correct.
