The much-anticipated release of an AI-produced song from the Beatles is finally happening. The song, “Now and Then,” which features the vocals of the late John Lennon, will finally be available today, over four decades after it was first recorded as a demo. The Beatles’ Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have finished the track, with the help of AI.

The song is set to be revealed at 1400 GMT, with the music video debuting on Friday, by Apple Corps, Capitol, and Universal Music Enterprises. McCartney, who is now 81, announced the song’s release and described it as the last Beatles song.

“Now And Then” was originally recorded by Lennon in 1978 and given to McCartney by Yoko Ono in 1994. Although the project was initially abandoned due to background noise on the demo, the use of AI has now made it possible to clean it up and complete the track.

The recording was processed using new technology, and McCartney confirmed that the finished track features Lennon’s voice “crystal clear.” The two surviving Beatles, along with the late George Harrison’s electric and acoustic guitar, spent a year finishing “Now And Then.”

The song will be released as a double A-side, packaged with the band’s 1962 debut single “Love Me Do,” and will include cover art by US artist Ed Ruscha. The release is set to be a momentous occasion for fans of the band, as it represents “the last song my dad, Paul, George and Ringo got to make together,” in the words of Sean Ono Lennon.
