UAE Tech Company e& Embraces Four-Day Workweek

In a groundbreaking move that could revolutionize the work-life balance in the UAE, tech-telecom holding company e& has initiated a pilot program for a four-day workweek. This innovative approach has garnered attention from other government-related enterprises, with reports suggesting that they are considering following suit.

Dena Almansoori, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer at e&, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to pilot this initiative. Just as we continuously innovate in our products and services, we also recognize the need to modernize workplace strategies. What may have worked in the past may not be suitable for the future.”

e& has implemented the four-day workweek for employees across three departments in the UAE, making it the first technology company in the region to embrace the global call for workplace flexibility. This pilot program allows participating employees to enjoy a three-day weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Additionally, the company has adopted a hybrid workplace model, enabling employees to work remotely for a couple of days a week, including Fridays. This approach not only promotes sustainability by reducing energy consumption in offices but also diminishes carbon emissions through transportation.

Industry sources have revealed that several prominent UAE companies have contemplated introducing a four-day workweek option, and now that e& has taken the lead, others may follow suit. Furthermore, Sharjah currently permits government departments to observe a three-day weekend, highlighting a broader trend toward greater flexibility in the workplace.

The move by e& reflects a growing recognition of the need for modern and adaptable workplace strategies, positioning the company at the forefront of the evolving work culture in the UAE.
