Vistara, the airline co-owned by Tata Group and Singapore Airlines Ltd., is set to expand its international routes in the coming year. According to CEO Vinod Kannan, the airline plans to introduce two or three new routes in the first quarter of 2022. Vistara has already announced its intention to launch flights to Bali from India’s capital and Frankfurt from Mumbai, with the possibility of adding Paris as well.

However, this expansion comes amidst a merger between Vistara and Air India Ltd. Once the necessary regulatory clearances are obtained, Vistara is expected to gradually disappear as its operations, including jobs, aircraft, and routes, are transferred to Air India. As part of this process, Vistara’s flight schedules will be updated and aspects such as uniforms, aircraft livery, and airport signage will be changed.

Currently, Vistara operates a fleet of 63 aircraft, primarily consisting of Airbus SE single-aisle jets and some Boeing Co. 787s. It serves 32 domestic and 16 international destinations. Kannan stated that by the end of the financial year, international flights will make up 40% of Vistara’s operations.

“The focus has always been on international routes, as we believe that is where we can bring the most value,” Kannan emphasized.

With its ambitious plans for expansion and a clear emphasis on international routes, Vistara aims to solidify its position in the airline industry and cater to the growing demand for air travel.
