Archer’s air taxi operations are set to revolutionize urban transportation, with the company aiming to make air travel as affordable as premium ground ridesharing services like Uber Black or Uber Comfort. According to Chief Safety Officer Billy Nolen, the pricing for air taxis will initially be in the upper premium range, comparable to what Uber charges for a one-time trip from Abu Dhabi International Airport to Dubai Mall.
However, considering the potential time savings—reducing a land journey that takes hours to just 10-20 minutes—air taxis could become a game-changer in urban travel. The company’s eVTOL aircraft, Midnight, is piloted and can accommodate four passengers, with a range of 100 miles on a single charge.
Archer has raised over $1.1 billion in funding and recently joined hands with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) to launch air taxi operations in Abu Dhabi by 2026. The company also plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Atlanta, Georgia, with talks to build a similar facility in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, Archer signed a partnership agreement with DWC-based private heliport operator Air Chateau International, which plans to purchase up to 100 Midnight eVTOL aircraft.
As the company prepares for commercial operations, it is also focused on establishing infrastructure such as designated helipads and charging stations for the eVTOLs within key city locations. It is working closely with regulatory authorities to finalize the operational framework for pilot training and accreditation.
In terms of booking air taxi services, Archer is exploring the potential integration of its services with airline apps, making it convenient for users to book flights. Nolen highlighted that the goal is to simplify the process of hailing an air taxi through various partnerships with airlines like United Airlines (UAL) and IndiGo.
With rigorous efforts to secure certifications from aviation authorities and strategic partnerships with key industry players, Archer is forging ahead in its mission to transform urban air transportation.
