Dubai Unites to Support Gaza During Humanitarian Crisis
As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, the city of Dubai has come together to offer support to those in need. Many businesses and restaurants in Dubai have pledged their profits to aid those who are suffering in the war-torn city, while others are hosting events to generate funds to assist them. One such group, Soul Collective DXB, which consists of chefs, restaurateurs, and creative minds, has launched the ‘Gather for Gaza’ campaign in collaboration with Emirates Red Crescent and the Little Wings Foundation. The first event under this initiative, which took place on October 30, showcased 10 Dubai-based food brands, several Palestinian artists, and gathered 300 supporters, raising over Dh125,000.
Following this success, a second event at Honeycomb Hi-Fi featured a music exhibition curated by resident DJs Tariq Omar, eLo, BCM, and Jayesh. Korean restaurant How Lee Kow, Zinn bistro, and 71 Steak & Grill are next in line to host fundraising events, with several other events planned for the near future. The award-winning bistro, 21grams, plans to host a ‘soul food with community spirit’ evening event at Meyan Mall on November 8, while Spanish restaurant BOCA in Dubai International Financial Centre, which is Palestinian-owned, will host an exclusive six-course lunch crafted by renowned chefs on the same day. Maiz Tacos, another Palestinian-owned business, is hosting a ‘Paint Palestine Workshop’ on November 14, with all profits donated to the Tarahum for Gaza effort.
Additionally, for every visitor to Downtown Design, a leading design fair in the Middle East, Dh50 will be donated to Emirates Red Crescent from the Dh25 entry fee and an additional Dh25 from the organizers per guest. Lebanese-Syrian restaurant and sandwich shop, Dukkan El Baba, is offering free meals to those who donate Dh150 to any Palestinian relief fund. The Emirates Literature Foundation has also dedicated its community events to the Emirates Red Crescent campaign, Tarahum for Gaza, with the first event, Gentle Steps, Guided Words, consisting of a meditative walk followed by a writing workshop on November 10. To attend, a donation of Dh250 to the Emirates Red Crescent campaign is required.
The outpouring of support from the Dubai community in response to the crisis in Gaza is a testament to the city’s compassion and spirit of generosity. As the events continue, the hope is to raise significant funds to assist those in need and provide relief amid the ongoing crisis.
