Dubai authorities have taken a step forward in ensuring the safety of public transport by implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor and track the performance of thousands of public utility vehicles and their drivers. The smart system now covers 7,200 vehicles, including taxis, limousines, school buses, commercial buses, and delivery bikes, along with 14,500 drivers, according to the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), a part of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The AI capabilities of the DTC control center allow for easy monitoring of public transport demand and aid the authority in identifying areas that require taxis and public vehicles, said Ammar Al Braiki, Director of Fleet Operations at the DTC.

In an effort to prioritize the safety and timely arrivals of students at schools and homes, the authority has designated the monitoring of 1,000 school buses as a top priority.

The authority also oversees the operation of 5,200 taxis, ensuring a consistent availability of service 24/7. It supports drivers, responds to their needs, directs them to high-demand areas, measures daily vehicle movement efficiency, and analyzes data to enhance performance and meet customer needs.

Drivers’ compliance with guidelines is closely observed, and the center tracks the routes of vehicles to guarantee the safety of transport operations.
