Michelin Guide celebrates recent expansion with inaugural stars in Atlanta and Colorado, and upcoming guide for Mexico in 2024. However, to consolidate, New York, Chicago, and Washington have now been merged into one multi-starred package, with a total of 117 starred restaurants. The announcement was made at a live event at Spring Studios in New York. The biggest news came from Chicago as Smyth was promoted to three stars, making it one of 14 three-star restaurants in the US.
Additionally, high-end Japanese restaurants Sushi Noz and Odo in New York were elevated from one-star restaurants to two. New York now highlights a quarter of the 71 starred restaurants featuring Japanese food and a notable addition to the one-star list was Torrisi. Notable omissions include Tatiana and the Korean tasting menu spot Atomix, while Michelin trended for pushing out guides as a result of partnerships with local tourist boards.
In Chicago, the nine-month-old tasting menu restaurant Atelier earned a star, while in Washington, two new dining rooms were recognized with a star each. Causa, which highlights the far-ranging cuisine of Peru and Rania, the first Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in Washington. This year, Michelin also stripped a star from another popular Italian spot: Don Angie.

The guide has put Japanese and Korean cuisine under the spotlight, showcasing their increasing popularity in the US culinary scene.
